Day 2 Samoan Language Week

What a busy day today here in Room 9!
First thing this morning we had some awesome visitors pop in and share something special to them.
Whaea Lei shared her malu with us and talked about what it represents and how she got it done. She did say it hurt very much.
Matua Hazze also shared how he got his traditional tatau. We were amazed that it took a whole week and he sat for 11 hours a day (woah it's longer than we are at school).
Thank you Matua and Whaea for coming in and sharing with us.
After morning tea Matua Lui and Room 6 popped in and shared the story of The Coconut and how to open it up properly. We love listening to new stories here in Room 9.
This afternoon we started dying our lavalava to represent our word of the week 'alofa'. I asked the kids what colour would represent alofa? Some said green and yellow? Or yellow and purple (Lakers fan?) But most agreed red.
Below are pictures of today's adventures in Room 9.
