Cook Islands Language Week – Te ‘Epetoma o Te Reo Kūki ‘Āirani 2017

Kia orana,

Welcome back I hope you had a wonderful school holidays.  Week 2 is Cook Island Language Week and we have been very busy immersing ourselves in it's beautiful language and culture.

The 2017 theme for Cook Islands Language Week is -
`Ei rāvenga nāku i te tuatua i tōku reo Māori Kūki ’Āirani ka anoano au i te turuturu ā tōku ngutu`are tangata `ē te matakeinanga
An encouraging home and community environment is what I need to build my love and my confidence to speak my reo Māori Kūki ’Āirani

So far we have started off with a flag raising ceremony and Miss Tumatoa and Matua Vae have been teaching us a prayer a new prayer/blessing.
Today we were lucky enough to have gone to a play called "Teina and Clicks" performed by students from Tangaroa College.   It was FANTASTIC!  What a talented group of young adults!  The performance was based on an old Cook Island legend.

Matua Vae has set a challenge for each class to do.  Below you will see our video clip of our challenge.  The purpose was to greet each other and to ask and reply to the phrase, "How are you?"  We were a bit shy so we used the puppets and pretended they were at the markets in Rarotonga.  Thank you Christina and Neveah for being good sports.
